The Deichtorhallen Hamburg is showing an outdoor exhibition of works by Swedish-British photojournalist ANASTASIA TAYLOR-LIND. On behalf of DIE ZEIT, she traveled to the Ukrainian city of Lviv on March 8, International Women's Day, and portrayed fleeing mothers with their daughters as they passed through the train station. Together with Ukrainian journalist Olha Petriv, she interviewed the women about their origins and their goals. Due to sexualized and gender-based violence, women are particularly affected by the impact of war.
Starting on May 8, the Deichtorhallen Hamburg, whose three museums are closed at this time for exhibition-related renovations, will present the portraits in public space on the Deichtorhallenplatz as a contribution to the Benefit Day of Hamburg Museums, which also falls on Mother's Day. On large-format banners, the pictures and accompanying short texts - each in German, English and Ukrainian - tell the fates of six Ukrainian women on the run with their children.
Already since 2014, ANASTASIA TAYLOR-LIND regularly travels to Ukraine to document the war and the fates on the ground. In 2014, her first book "MAIDAN - Portraits from the Black Square" was published, a series of portraits of anti-government demonstrators and mourners, taken in the same year on the Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square). She is a TED Fellow and former Harvard Niemann Fellow (2016). ANASTASIA TAYLOR-LIND works as a photojournalist for leading publication media worldwide, including The National Geographic Magazine, TIME, Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Sunday Times, and The Guardian.
The outdoor exhibition was conceived by Ingo Taubhorn, curator from Haus der Photographie, and Amélie Schneider, head of picture editing at DIE ZEIT, and is open and free to the public at all times until end of october.
